Black tea

Benifuuki

Benifuuki is a rare black tea from Japan – made from a cross between the Benihomare and Makura Cd86 varieties, grown on volcanic soil in Kagoshima. It combines the depth of an Assam heritage with the elegant restraint of Japanese tea craftsmanship: full-bodied, clear, with notes of ripe plum, honey, and malt.

This is how the tea tastes

AROMA & CHARACTER

Ripe plum on the nose, gentle malt, a hint of cocoa shell. The first infusion is round and soft – with a honey-warm sweetness and a calm depth. Shorter brewing times bring out fruity clarity, longer ones promote a gentle maltiness with a dry, slightly woody finish. The tannins remain subtle – the character is structured, but never intrusive.

One of the few fully oxidized teas from Japan – cultivated from a special cultivar with Assam heritage.

Fruity brightness meets malty warmth – clearly structured and surprisingly soft in the finish.

Gently processed and naturally pure – pleasantly mild even after a longer steeping time.

THE TEA FARM

Tea culture from Kagoshima

Benifuuki originates from the southern Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima – a region with volcanic soil, a mild climate, and high humidity. Grown at altitudes of up to 400 m, the plants benefit from the interplay of fog, wind, and nutrient-rich rock.

The cultivar was bred in 1965 from two varieties – Benihomare (Assamica) and Makura Cd86 (Sinensis) – thus combining strength with elegance.
After harvesting, the leaves are briefly wilted, oxidized for several hours, and then gently dried. The result: a black tea with depth, clarity, and gentle strength.
