Black tea

Muscatel Dragon

Muscatel Dragon is a partially oxidized hybrid from Yunnan that combines the floral Muscatel elegance of an oolong with the warm, malty-spicy depth of a black tea. Produced from mountain gardens between 800 and 2,000 meters above sea level, it brews a dark amber cup with a honey-like sweetness, ripe fruit, and a dry, spicy finish. Complex, velvety, and precise – for those seeking a black tea with excitement, yet without heaviness.

AROMA & CHARACTER

The nose offers white blossom, bright honey sweetness, and muscatel. On the palate, it's soft and velvety with ripe fruit (plum/apricot) and subtle spice. Bitterness is minimal, and the astringency remains rounded and controlled. A shorter steeping time yields a clear, floral freshness; a longer steeping time emphasizes depth, honey/cocoa notes, and a dry, spicy finish. Subsequent infusions become darker, warmer, and exhibit a long, muscatel-sweet lingering effect.

Muscatel

The processing keeps the muscatel florality alive, while the cup remains warm and textured like black tea.

Altitude and slow growth result in aromatic density without making the tea feel heavy.

Its soft body with ripe fruit and subtle spice makes it ideal if you want depth but no bitterness.

THE TEA FARM

Muscat accents from Yunnan

The tea gardens are located at altitudes of 800–2,000 m. Cool fog, strong daily temperature variations, and mineral-rich soils promote slow growth and aromatic concentration in the leaf.

After withering, the tea undergoes controlled partial oxidation to preserve its oolong-like aromatic core. The processing then continues until it reaches the warm, typical depth of black tea: gently rolled, slowly dried, and stabilized. This results in a natural tea with a muscatel aroma, a honey-like sweetness, and a spicy-malty base – without any additives.

Selected from mountain gardens with a focus on clean oxidation and careful drying.

TERROIR

High altitude, fog and mineral soils promote ripe fruit, honey sweetness and a clear, supportive structure.

ORIGIN

A rare stylistic bridge between oolong and black tea, where fragrance and depth are conveyed simultaneously.

The tea

Muscatel Dragon

Muscatel Dragon is a tea whose character is controlled through oxidation. Its signature "muscatel" flavor lies in its aromatic core, which is why it reacts strongly to steeping time: A shorter steeping results in a lighter, more floral, and fruity flavor. A longer steeping intensifies notes of honey, cocoa, and spice without becoming bitter. This makes it versatile – you can drink it like an elegant black tea or prepare it like a rich oolong.

It remains stable even over multiple infusions. The early infusions offer fragrance and ripe fruit, the middle ones bring more warmth and structure, and the later ones reveal a dry spiciness and a long, gentle sweetness. If you pour the tea completely, the line remains precise and the body velvety rather than heavy.

What is special about Muscatel Dragon?

Muscatel Dragon is a rare blend of fully fermented black tea and oolong-style processing. Originating from high altitudes, it develops a unique interplay of aromas: dark berries, floral depth, and the typical "Muscatel" note, as known from late Darjeelings – intense, ripe, and smooth all at once.
