What is Oolong tea?

Oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea with a flavor profile that falls between green and black tea. After harvesting, the leaves are withered, gently shaken (yaoqing), partially oxidized, and then carefully fixed and dried. Depending on the degree of oxidation, the spectrum ranges from light green, floral and fresh oolongs to darker styles with pronounced honey and spice notes.
This delicate interplay of oxidation and roasting results in teas with a broad spectrum of aromas, a clear structure, and often a very soft texture. Many oolongs can be steeped multiple times – each infusion reveals a new facet.

All our teas are tasted, selected according to origin, craftsmanship, and profile, and described transparently. This way, you can buy Oolong tea online that truly suits your taste and your moments.

Oolong tea at NOEMA – our styles

Tie Guan Yin

Slightly oxidized, firmly rolled Oolong from Fujian with floral orchid/gardenia notes, a silky-smooth body and a clear-mineral aftertaste.

Milky Oolong (Jin Xuan, natural)

Creamy-smooth oolong with a natural milky note, gentle sweetness and cool florality; without flavorings, derived from the Jin Xuan cultivar.

Oriental Beauty

Highly oxidized Oolong from Taiwan with honey, muscat grape and ripe stone fruit; created by leafhopper biting, silky and honey-sweet in the cup.

How to properly prepare Oolong tea

For oolong tea, it's worth paying attention to the water and steeping time. Most oolongs thrive in the 85–95 °C range. Tightly rolled oolong pellets (e.g., Tie Guan Yin, Milky Oolong) need some time and warmth to open up; striped, more oxidized oolongs (e.g., Oriental Beauty) already display a lot of aroma in the first infusion.

On the product pages you will find detailed brewing guides for Gongfu-style (multiple short infusions) and Western-style infusions in a teapot or mug. Basic rules:
• It's best to drain completely so the leaves can relax between infusions.
• If the cup is too strong: slightly reduce the time or temperature
• If the cup is too weak: either brew with a slightly hotter water or gently extend the brewing time.

Many oolongs can withstand 3-6 infusions with a clearly recognizable development – ideal for longer breaks or small rituals throughout the day.

Which oolong tea suits you best?

If you like floral, light-colored teas, Tie Guan Yin is a good starting point. If you're looking for something creamy and smooth, almost reminiscent of milk and light vanilla, Milky Oolong is a must-try. For honey-sweet, fruity depth with hints of muscat grape and peach, Oriental Beauty is ideal. And if you're looking for a calming, floral evening tea, Oolong Lavandula with lavender and subtle vanilla can be a good choice.

This is how Oolong tea becomes a tea for transitions: from morning into the day, from work to a break, from a busy mind to a more relaxed evening. If you're unsure which Oolong is right for you, feel free to contact us anytime – we'll help you find the perfect one.
