This is how the tea tastes

AROMA & CHARACTER

The aroma initially reveals forest floor, dark wood, and cocoa – warm, tranquil, and smoky. On the palate, the tea is soft and full-bodied, with an earthy baseline that quickly shifts into dark chocolate, then is balanced by dried fruit (date/fig) and a gentle molasses sweetness. With a shorter brewing time, the cup remains clear and very clean, with a delicate, dry chocolate note and a smooth finish. Longer extraction brings more depth: moist wood, malty warmth, and a denser mouthfeel without becoming harsh. In subsequent infusions, the tea becomes rounder and more mellow – the sweetness is more pronounced, and the finish remains warm, dark, and long.

Menghai's Pu-Erh Heritage

This Shou Pu-Erh comes from Menghai (Xishuangbanna, South Yunnan) – a region known for its calm, dense, and very smooth Pu-Erh profiles. It is based on sun-dried maocha made from large-leaf material, which is then fermented using the Wo-Dui method: humidity and temperature are precisely controlled over several days until the raw leaf structure transforms into dark sweetness, cocoa, and earthy warmth.

After drying, the tea rests for about five years. During this time, sharp fermentation notes smooth out, the texture becomes rounder, and the typical Menghai nuances emerge more clearly: dark chocolate, dried fruit and damp wood, without harshness, without any "wet" edges.

TEA FARM

Selected from Menghai lots that exhibit clean fermentation and a calm, chocolatey depth.

TERROIR

The region's warm, humid climate supports the typical Menghai texture: soft, dense, and grounding.

ORIGIN

Shou Pu-Erh from Yunnan, ripened and loosely packed so that the leaf and fragrance can work freely.

The tea

Pu Erh Menghai Five Years

With mature shou, it's not just the aroma that matters, but also how the cup develops. This menghai starts off soft and dark immediately, without the "wet" edges you get from less-than-perfect fermentation. A shorter pull makes it clearer and more structured, almost dry in the finish. If you give it time, the body becomes denser, the sweetness is reminiscent of molasses, and the cacao line lingers longer.

Complete pouring is essential. This keeps the cup stable and clean, and allows you to control the brewing process through the infusions. The later infusions are often the most beautiful: less woodiness, more rounded sweetness, supported by a warm, earthy base that doesn't overpower but rather unfolds.

PREPARATION

Pour 2.5g per 200ml of water at 100°C .
4 infusions : 3 min. chocolatey & soft / 5 min. deeper & earthier

CAFFEINE CONTENT

Mild to moderate, typical of shou. The effect is often warm and centering, and usually well tolerated even later in the day.

CUP COLOR

A deep ruby red that becomes darker and more intense with longer brewing time.
